Fluorit octahedra (green), with Adularia on granite gneiss -

Prato gorge, Val Lavizzara, Ticino, Switzerland

 

Light green Fluorite octahedron with ice-like pitted surface – an absolute rarity for Ticino! Perched with Adularia on a typically veined granite-gneiss matrix, partially covered with a sugary white Quartz layer. Beside it are other fluorite octahedra of 1-4 mm on edge, some perimorphically covered with "sugary" quartz. Collected in June 2010 from the hanging wall of the "Big Adularia Vein" (m 1360) on the footpath below Campala, ex Stefan Weiß collection
