Meteorite Springwater - Saskatchewan, Canada


Extremely rare Springwater Meteorite with the typical amber colored  olivine inclusions. Very nice disc with good size and aesthetics.
Springwater Meteorite is an iron pallasite found in 1931 near Springwater, Saskatchewan. At that time, the find consisted of three large meteorites  (38.6 kilograms, 18.6 kilograms and 10.6 kilograms).

 

Thirty percent of the meteorite consists of the ferrous metals kamacite and taenite, with the remainder being mainly olivine. Small amounts of other minerals are present, including several phosphates such as farringtonite (Mg3(PO4)2) and stanfieldite (Ca4(Mg,Fe)5(PO4)6) and merrillite (a member of the whitlockite group).
